Setup steps

Follow these steps to set up Google Earth integration:  

  1. From the Add menu, select Network Link.

  2. In the Network Link window, at the Name field, enter Nearmap. At the Link field, enter{YOUR_API_KEY}

  3. Click OK and verify that Nearmap logo appears (1) and the node with the name of the network link from Step 1 has a green dot (2).

Will the old URL still work?

A previous version of this API used a different URL and required you to log in with user name and password.

That URL is now deprecated. Please transition to the latest version of GoogleEarth integration.

Can I use my Username and Password?

This integration requires an API key and will not accept username and password.

What does the date under the Nearmap logo mean?

Currently Google Earth integration with Nearmap displays the most recent image capture is available for a given location.

With most subscriptions, it is not possible to be logged in to both the online MapBrowser and Google Earth at the same time. If you do, you will need to close both packages in order to access Nearmap through Google Earth again. If you find that Google Earth is not accepting your login credentials, please make sure that you have followed Step 3.


Switch to the General tab.

Uncheck the Save cookies to disk box and click OK. If you don't do this, you may lose the ability to access Nearmap via Google Earth as soon as you next login to the MapBrowser. If that happens, you will need to manually delete Google Earth's "cookies" file and restart Google Earth. On Windows 7, this is usually found at:


The date of the latest imagery appears under the Nearmap logo and may change while transitioning between different zoom levels.

What does “Outside your subscription” message mean?

This message means you have no access to the Nearmap imagery in the area you are viewing. (There may or may not be Nearmap coverage.)

What does “Outside coverage” message mean?

This message means that you have access to view this area, however Nearmap has no coverage.

Possible legacy cookies

If Google Earth previously saved cookies, follow these steps to clear them (on Windows):

  1. Find Google Earth's cookies file on your hard drive. It is typically at "C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Google\GoogleEarth\cookies

  2. From the Add menu, select Network Link.

  3. In the Network Link window, at the Name field, enter Nearmap. At the Link field, enter

  4. When prompted, enter your Nearmap User Name and Password, and click Sign In.

  5. You should now see Nearmap appear as a layer. The imagery shown for a given location is the most recent Nearmap image available for that location; previous captures cannot currently be accessed in Google Earth. Since low zoom levels may include imagery from many dates, zoom in close to a location of interest to be sure that you're seeing the appropriate date for its capture.

  6. Delete this file.

  7. Follow all steps of the Google Earth integration instructions above.

To keep Google Earth from storing cookies, follow these steps:

  1. In Google Earth, go to the Options menu.

Issues with getting the integration to work

If you are still experiencing issues accessing Nearmap imagery, try clearing the Google Earth cache. Follow these steps:

  1. In Google Earth select File > Server Sign Out.
  2. Select Tools > Options and on the Cache tab.
  3. Press Delete cache file.
