It is easy to access Nearmap imagery through Google Earth® or Google Earth Pro®.


Please note that at this time, only the most recent image capture is available for a given location.

With most subscriptions, it is not possible to be logged in to both the online MapBrowser and Google Earth at the same time. If you do, you will need to close both packages in order to access Nearmap through Google Earth again. If you find that Google Earth is not accepting your login credentials, please make sure that you have followed Step 3.

Keep Google Earth from storing cookies:


 All you need is an API Key and this URL:{YOUR_API_KEY}

Setup steps

Follow these steps to set up Google Earth integration:  


  1. From the Add menu, select Network Link.

  2. In the Network Link window, at the Name field, enter Nearmap. At the Link field, enter enter  and click OK.

    When prompted, enter your Nearmap User Name and Password, and click Sign In.

    Verify /super-overlays/v1/kml?apikey={YOUR_API_KEY}

  3. Click OK and verify that Nearmap logo appears (1) and the node with the name of the network link from Step 3 1 has a green dot (2).

Can I use my Username and Password?

This integration requires an API key and will not accept username and password.

What does the date under the Nearmap logo mean?

Currently Google Earth integration with Nearmap displays the most recent image capture available for a given location.

The date of the latest imagery appears under the Nearmap logo and may change while transitioning between different zoom levels.

What does “Outside your subscription” message mean?

This message means you have no access to the Nearmap imagery in the area you are viewing. (There may or may not be Nearmap coverage.)

What does “Outside coverage” message mean?

This message means that you have access to view this area, however Nearmap has no coverage.

Google Earth not accepting Nearmap login

This section should help if you try to login using correct Nearmap credentials in Google Earth, but the login window keeps appearing whatever you type, even if you click Cancel.
This can happen if Step 3 of our Google Earth integration instructions was missed. If Google Earth saves your validated credentials to disk, it will try to use the same saved Nearmap authentication cookie every time you try to log in. That may be fine if you haven't logged in elsewhere. However, if you have used the MapBrowser more recently, the original cookie becomes invalid but Google Earth tries to use it anyway.


Will the old URL still work?

A previous version of this API used a different URL and required you to log in with user name and password.

That URL is now deprecated. Please transition to the latest version of GoogleEarth integration.

Possible legacy cookies

If Google Earth previously saved cookies, follow these steps to clear them (on Windows):

  1. Find Google Earth's cookies file on your hard drive. It is typically at "C:\Users\YOUR_USERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Google\GoogleEarth\cookies" where YOUR_USERNAME is your Windows username.

  2. Delete this file.

  3. Follow all steps of the Google Earth integration instructions above.


To keep Google Earth from storing cookies, follow these steps:

  1. In Google Earth, go to the Options menu.

  2. Switch to the General tab.

  3. Anchor
    Uncheck the Save cookies to disk box and click OK.

Issues with getting the integration to work

If you are still experiencing issues logging in or accessing Nearmap imagery, try clearing the Google Earth cache. Follow these steps:

  1. In Google Earth select File > Server Sign Out.
  2. Select Tools > Options and on the Cache tab.
  3. Press Delete cache file.
