Review this section before you view your data usage. This section includes the following sections:
What is data usage based on?
For imagery usage your data usage is measured in bytes of Nearmap proprietary aerial imagery viewed.
For AI parcel data your usage is measured in numbers of parcels downloaded.
What consumes data?
Consuming Nearmap imagery via an integration
Integrations such as WMS, ArcGIS Online, Tile API and KML (Google Super-overlay)
Consuming data on different Nearmap platforms

Solar reports | typically less than 1MB per report | N/A |
◊ Once you are zoomed out below 14, no data is consumed, no matter how much panning or how big your screen is.
♦ The bigger your monitor, the more tiles you can fit in view and therefore the more data you will consume.
But once you are zoomed out below 14, no matter how much panning or how big your screen is, we won't count data.
♣ 2D usage still applies if you are viewing a roads or streets layer on top of your Nearmap imagery.
In New MapBrowser you access Roads Overlay from the Data Layers panel on the left. | In Classic MapBrowser a roads layer is displayed by clicking the Street Maps button.
What does not consume data?
- Exporting 2D imagery
- Viewing 3D content
- Leaving the Nearmap browser open
- Panning over the world map at low resolution
- Zooming and panning over an area that is not covered by Nearmap aerial imagery
The area you're viewing has no Nearmap coverage when:
- a dialog at the bottom of New MapBrowser tells you there is no coverage
- on New MapBrowser the imagery has a here watermark
- on Classic MapBrowser the imagery has a Google watermark
Viewing Roads or Roadmaps
In New MapBrowser - by selecting Roads as your view type from the Base Layer picker | In Classic MapBrowser - by selecting Roadmap as your view type
FAQs
-
What to do if my Nearmap account is limited? —
If your account is limited you may be unable to view Nearmap content. This may occur if you have exceeded your usage or have an unpaid invoice that is overdue. You will see the following errors when your account is limited:
When your Account is overdue:
You will see a message on the welcome to Nearmap page after logging in:
-
How do I know if I'm reaching my usage limit? —
Administrators can check your account usage on the Self Service Portal. Follow the instructions here: View Account Data Usage.
- All account administrators receive a notification when your allowed data limit and/or AI parcel limit reaches 80%.
- All account administrators receive another notification when your allowed data limit and/or AI parcel limit reaches 100%.
-
Where can I see my ArcGIS Online usage? —
Your usage of Nearmap content via ArcGIS Online is shown in the annual and monthly usage sections of the subscription page. Refer to the sections above for more information:
-
Why can't I see an annual usage chart? —
You will only see an annual usage chart if these two conditions are both true:
- you are an Administrator of your Nearmap account
- you have an annual subscription.
-
How do I increase my usage limit? —
Speak to your Nearmap Account Manager to arrange to increase your usage limit.
-
-
Does interacting with the imagery in the area definition window count towards my usage? —
Yes. When you define an area, a small amount of imagery is loaded to provide context for where we have coverage. We envisage that there will be very little usage coming from this tool because:
- The map is very small, i.e. not full screen
- It is used infrequently to create services
-
Do bigger areas in custom WMS contribute more to my usage? —
No. The areas that you define for your custom service are simply instructions on how to build a list of layers in that service. At the time of creation, no requests for imagery within the area of interest are made. Usage is accrued only when you bring the WMS service into your GIS application and add it to the map.
-
Does having Roads Overlay turned on affect my data usage? —
No. There is no difference to your 2D usage whether Roads Overlay is on or off. The same usage rules apply. Find out more in About Data Usage.
-
-
How do I download additional 3D formats for an existing export without getting charged again? —
You can access your downloads at any time by clicking the Downloads button on MapBrowser.
Make sure you're on the correct tab - 3D EXPORTS or AI EXPORTS.
-
When will our usage reset? —
Usage resets 12:00am UTC. Monthly allowances are reset on the first day of the month. Annual allowances are reset at the beginning of each new usage term.
-
-
Do viewing and measuring 3D content consume my data usage? —
No. Viewing and measuring 3D content do not count towards your standard imagery data allowance. (This is unlike viewing 2D content - refer to About Data Usage for more information.)
-
How can I check my monthly DSM and True Ortho usage? —
Yes. If you are a Nearmap Administrator, in the Self Service Portal you can see your monthly allowance and your usage, expressed as number of transactions. Learn how to View Account Data Usage.
