Overview

3D Textured Mesh is a digital data set, designed for photo-realistic visual interactions using 3D software applications.

The Textured Mesh is a seamless set of triangulated surfaces stitched together with high-resolution imagery to model the shape and texture of objects, such as buildings, tree canopy, man-made features etc.


Nearmap's high-resolution camera system has the ability to capture objects from multiple viewpoints. This custom scanning technique produces overlapping photos that are key to 3D reconstruction, where photos are matched with one another, and generate dense 3D points to form a 3D model.

Delivery and Supported Formats

The 3D products are delivered either online using MapBrowser 3D Export, or offline or via Secure Cloud Transfer.

Product Constraints

3D reconstruction is determined by the ability to reliably resolve objects from at least two different viewing angles.

Objects hidden or occluded would not be reconstructed reliably, as well as: 

  • Ambiguous features, such as reflective surfaces, featureless surfaces, thin features, and complex features such as trees
  • Objects that are less than 40cm in size 
  • Objects that are beneath another object, or semi-obtruded
  • No labels
